Registration Open for Third COVID-19 Vaccine Dose for Immunocompromised Individuals

(August 16, 2021) – On Friday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) approved a third dose of COVID-19 vaccines by Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna for immunocompromised individuals.

. In response to this announcement, San Miguel County Public Health has received confirmation for the vaccine rollout from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) and has scheduled four clinics for vaccine booster shots for immunocompromised individuals.

“With the CDC and CDPHE authorizing vaccine rollout for immunocompromised individuals, the Public Health team has worked quickly to open registration for those interested in receiving a booster,” said Public Health Director Grace Franklin. “Receiving an additional dose has been shown to reinforce antibody response, providing an extra layer of protection to those who are at high risk.”

What is the purpose of Healthcare Coalitions?

Healthcare Coalitions are collaborative networks of healthcare organizations and their respective public and private sector response partners. Together, they serve as a multi-agency coordination group to assist with preparedness, response, and recovery activities related to health and medical disaster operations.

Healthcare coalitions improve medical surge capacity and capability, further enhancing a community's healthcare system preparedness for disasters and public health emergencies. They also augment local operational readiness to meet the health and medical challenges posed by a catastrophic incident or event. This is achieved by engaging and empowering all parts of the healthcare community and by strengthening the existing relationships to understand and meet the actual health and medical needs of the whole community.
